About this project

Understand Your Name is a small data product living at mynameprint.com: type an American first name, get a field report built from 145 years of Social Security birth records plus live votes from real visitors. The brand is Understand Your Name; the domain is mynameprint.com — same thing, one site.

Why it exists

Most name sites recycle the same etymology paragraphs. We wanted the other half of the story: the numbers (when a name peaked, how old its bearers are now) and the perception (what strangers actually picture when they hear it). The first half comes from public records; the second half is crowdsourced one anonymous tap at a time. Where machine-written prose fills the gaps, it is labeled as such — every module carries a provenance badge.

Who runs it

An independent developer operates Understand Your Name. Editorial rules, data handling, and the generation pipeline are documented on the methodology page; the short version is: real sources, labeled AI, honest uncertainty, and no claims about any individual person.
