Camilla

Derived from the Latin Camillus, a title given to acolytes assisting in religious rites. Virgil made Camilla a swift-footed warrior queen in the Aeneid, and the name entered English drawing rooms by way of Frances Burney's 1796 novel of the same name. American parents registered it continuously from 1880 onward, though rarely in large clusters until the twenty-first century.

The double-l spelling reads slightly more literary and less hurried than its single-l cousin. More than half of living Americans named Camilla are in Gen Alpha, meaning the name spends most of its present life in modern kindergarten classrooms. Despite that youth cohort, it still sounds like someone who owns cloth-bound books and keeps linen napkins in regular rotation.
