Drew

Originally a short form of Andrew, derived from the Greek word for manly, though it also surfaces independently from an Old French surname. American record keepers logged it quietly in the nineteenth century as an informal family name before it struck out on its own. By the late twentieth century, it had shed almost all obligation to Andrew.

The name reads as casual, capable, and difficult to mispronounce across a crowded room. Most living bearers are around thirty years old, placing them squarely in the era of fleece pullovers and high school soccer tournaments. Roughly eleven percent of American Drews are women, a crossover helped along by mid-1990s cinema. It never requires a nickname because it already arrived as one.
