Evie

Originally an English diminutive of Eve, derived from the Hebrew root for living or life, as well as a short form for Evelyn and Evangeline. It circulated as a pet name throughout the nineteenth century before establishing its own quiet line on American birth rolls in 1880. Modern parents revived it directly on birth certificates without the intermediate formality of a longer legal name.

The name sounds like it belongs in an Edwardian picture book, but the actual bearer is overwhelmingly likely to be sitting in an elementary school classroom. Over two-thirds of all living holders belong to Generation Alpha. It bypasses the formal register of Evelyn in favor of immediate playground utility. An Evie has almost certainly never seen a physical phone book.
