Harvey

The name derives from Old Breton Haerviu, composed of elements meaning battle and worthy. Introduced to England following the Norman Conquest of 1066, it circulated as both a personal name and a hereditary surname. It crossed into early American usage during the colonial era and remained a regular entry in municipal ledgers throughout the nineteenth century.

The name reads as someone who either remembers carbon paper or has not yet learned to walk. Decades of twentieth-century retirement left it parked beside bowling leagues and hardware counters, but contemporary nursery rosters have recently put it back in motion. A modern Harvey is pictured either studying the morning crosswords or dropping a teething ring from a high chair. The two primary cohorts share little in common beyond a high tolerance for knit cardigans.
