Jasmin

Borrowed from the Persian botanical word yasamin via Old French. While English-speaking regions traditionally favored the trailing vowel, continental Europe and Scandinavia preferred this unadorned spelling. It appeared in American birth ledgers in 1951 and found heavy rotation four decades later as parents stripped decorative vowels off floral names.

The spelling signals someone who spent her middle school years correcting substitute teachers who wanted to add a trailing 'e'. Over half of all living bearers belong to Generation Z, placing the name firmly in the era of early flip phones and iPod minis. It reads lighter and slightly more international than its six-letter counterpart. Most Jasmins have accepted that personalized souvenir keychains will never stock their specific spelling.
