Nora

The name began as a shortened form of either Honora, from the Latin word for honor, or Eleanor, whose Old French roots remain disputed. Henrik Ibsen gave it an international spike of attention in 1879 when Nora Helmer exited the final scene of A Doll's House. American registrars logged the name without interruption from 1880 onward, maintaining a modest profile before a sharp twenty-first-century climb.

Hearing the name today tends to bring to mind fountain pens, canvas totes, or a well-tended garden. The sound suggests a nineteenth-century grammar text, but the tallies tell a different story. Over half of all living bearers belong to Generation Alpha. When someone calls for a Nora across a room, the person who turns around is statistically likely to be holding a juice box.
