Ophelia

Derived from the Greek noun for help or benefit. Italian poet Jacopo Sannazaro introduced the form Ofelia in his 1504 romance Arcadia, and William Shakespeare cemented it in Hamlet nearly a century later. American parents largely avoided it for decades before staging an abrupt twenty-first-century revival.

The name reads as tragic theater that recently learned how to drink from a sippy cup. For generations, it suggested Victorian pressed flowers and high school English syllabi. Today, roughly 68 percent of living bearers belong to Generation Alpha. The drama has mostly been relocated to preschool cubby rooms.
