Derived historically as a short form of Anastasia (Greek for resurrection) or Eustace, though mid-twentieth-century America treated it as an entirely independent creation. The spelling with an -ie ending rose sharply in the late 1960s as parents favored softer, informal terminations. By 1971, it functioned as a standalone entry on birth certificates rather than a family nickname.

A Stacie is strongly associated with the early 1970s, striped tube socks, and school photos taken against mottled blue backdrops. The alternate spelling gives the name a lighter, slightly less institutional finish than the standard -y ending. Today, with the average holder around forty-nine years old, it reads as an established Gen X staple. It has largely vacated modern maternity wards without much fuss.
