Atticus

From the Latin adjective denoting someone from Attica, the region of Greece encompassing Athens. Titus Pomponius Atticus was the wealthy Roman confidant to whom Cicero addressed hundreds of surviving letters. In America, the name sat virtually untouched until Harper Lee published To Kill a Mockingbird in 1960, though parents waited another forty years before actually writing it on birth certificates in significant numbers.

The name reads as an instant literary assignment. Hearers assume the parents own linen-bound editions and have strong opinions about porch architecture. Because three out of four living bearers belong to Generation Alpha, the person answering to it is almost certainly a schoolchild carrying a heavy backpack. The solemn courtroom association rarely survives contact with youth soccer.
