Cyrus

Derived from the Old Persian name Kūruš, meaning either far-sighted or like the sun, filtered into Greek as Kyros and Latin as Cyrus. It entered American ledgers through both biblical familiarity and the classical revival of the nineteenth century, carried by industrial titans and rural pioneers alike.

The name carries the faint smell of patent medicine and nineteenth-century ironwork, yet nearly half of its living bearers are currently in grade school. Observers expect either a toddler drinking oat milk or an engineer who carries a slide rule. It completely skipped the mid-century cul-de-sac. It lands with a sharp, dry click.
