Nehemiah

From the Hebrew Nechemyah, meaning comfort of the Lord. The historical figure served as cupbearer to King Artaxerxes before overseeing the reconstruction of Jerusalem's city walls in the fifth century BCE. The name lingered at the far margins of American record books for over a century before joining the broader wave of Old Testament revivals around the turn of the millennium.

The name reads as serious on paper, though roughly half of all living bearers are still in middle school or high school. It carries the cadence of a nineteenth-century circuit preacher combined with the backpack weight of an adolescent born around 2010.
